Mei, however, finds it very hard to adapt to this new lifestyle, especially in expressing her true feelings towards Yamato. On the heels of her discovery that their feelings are mutual, they start dating and she gains not only a boyfriend, but friends as well. But when a dangerous situation ends with Yamato kissing Mei to save her from the unwanted attention of a stalker, Mei begins to develop feelings for him. Yamato finds her intriguing and insists on being her friend, even though Mei wants nothing to do with him.
However, Mei's life begins to change drastically when a misunderstanding in high school causes her to encounter popular student Yamato Kurosawa. Since then, she stays away from people in order to avoid ever being hurt again. With so many shows to see every year, it's easy for viewers to get lost underneath a sea of mediocre shows that say next to nothing new in the genre they inhabit. The winter and summer seasons used to be relatively small compared to the spring and fall, but now, they pump out no less than 40 series all on their own, while the bigger seasons can provide over sixty new shows every year. With international distributors Crunchyroll and Netflix taking an interest and using their significant funding to create their own original content, things aren’t getting any easier. As anime continues to gain popularity internationally, viewers are inundated with more and more series every year.
